Ranking uczelni zagranicznych

Lista Szanghajska, czyli zestawienie najlepszych szkół wyższych na świecie - została ogłoszona po raz dziesiąty. Uniwersytet Warszawski oraz Uniwersytet Jagielloński utrzymały swoje pozycje w 4. setce.

Najlepszą uczelnią świata w Academic Ranking of World Universities (ARWU) po raz 10. okazał się Uniwersytet Harvarda - wynika z Akademickiego Rankingu Uniwersytetów Świata. W pierwszej trójce najlepszych uczelni na świecie - oprócz Uniwersytetu Harvarda - znalazły się dwie inne amerykańskie uczelnie - Uniwersytet Stanforda oraz Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT). Wśród europejskich szkół wyższych najlepsze okazały się dwie brytyjskie: Cambridge (miejsce 5.) oraz Oxford (miejsce 10.).

Na liście 500 najlepszych uczelni wyższych świata dwa polskie uniwersytety - Uniwersytet Warszawski oraz Uniwersytet Jagielloński znalazły się w przedziale pomiędzy 301. a 400. miejscem (w zestawieniu nie są podawane dokładne pozycje w takich zakresach). W tym przedziale miejsc utrzymują się od początku istnienia rankingu, tylko w 2003 r. UJ znalazł się niżej - w 5. setce. Na 100 możliwych do zdobycia punktów Uniwersytet Jagielloński dostał w tym roku 10,8, Warszawski - 16,3. Nasze uczelnie sąsiadują w szanghajskim zestawieniu z takimi szkołami jak Uniwersytet w Kansas, Politechnika w Montanie (USA) czy Uniwersytet w Bath (Wielka Brytania). Polskie uczelnie najsłabiej wypadają pod względem finansów, m.in. w wysokości budżetu na jednego studenta.

Obok listy najlepszych uniwersytetów świata opublikowano również listę 200 uniwersytetów najlepszych w nauczaniu poszczególnych przedmiotów (ARWU-SUBJECT). UW wywalczyło w tym zestawieniu miejsce w drugiej połowie drugiej setki w nauczaniu fizyki (w zakresie miejsc od 151. do 200.).

W Liście Szanghajskiej, którą przygotowuje Uniwersytet Jiao Tong w Szanghaju, najbardziej liczą się międzynarodowe sukcesy naukowe. Pod uwagę bierze się liczbę absolwentów czy pracowników, którzy otrzymali Nagrodę Nobla lub Medal Fieldsa, liczbę najczęściej cytowanych naukowców, liczbę publikacji w czasopismach "Nature" czy "Science", liczbę publikacji wymienionych w wybranych indeksach cytowań (Science Citation Index - Expanded oraz Social Sciences Citation Index). W zestawieniu uwzględnia się wielkość osiągnięć w stosunku do wielkości uczelni. W rankingu branych jest pod uwagę ponad 1000 uczelni, spośród których na liście pojawia się 500.
